The Cheerleaders
by Kara Thomas

View in Library Catalog

"The Cheerleaders" is a mystery book that takes place in the town of Sunnybrook where deaths of cheerleaders have sprawled. Monica, the protagonist, is on a mission to unearths the deep truth behind the deaths. This book wasn't exactly my cup of tea. At times I felt that it was cliché. The characters were also really inspid. It definitely wasn't a page-turner. However, if you are fond of the horror or mystery genre, I recommend this title!

The Great Gatsby
by F. Scott Fiztgerald

This class novel recounts the potent experiences of Nick Carraway, an individual who traverses from rocky Minnesota to the sumptuous and opulent neighborhood of West Egg (new money), situated across from its counterpart, East Egg (old money), on Long Island. Quickly, Nick is able to discern that the East is unlike the Middle-West by encapsulating himself with a myriad of different individuals. Gatsby is his affluent next-door-neighbor who lives in an opulent mansion and hosts a prodigious array of grand parties that contain a surfeit of the finest food and pulchritudinous decorations. Nick's cousin, Daisy, lives on a mansion with her husband, Tom Buchanan. Daisy can be elucidated as selfish and beautiful. Tom Buchanan, on the other hand, can unreservedly be described as arrogant and vain. Lastly, living in the Valley of Ashes, Myrtle is conceited and money hungry. In its entity, this book has a solid plot as it pivots the light on issues pertaining to love and affluence. However, the area that this novels falls short on is its characters. While each individual character is different in regards to personality and interest, readers will be unlikely to fabricate an attachment with any of them; none of the characters are a perfect coalition of realistic and charming. However, I do admire that this book showcases a more realistic and raw approach to the deplorable side of the "lavish" world. This story is not a page-turner, but it does have profound historical value. I would prodigiously recommend this to anyone who is fond of classic tales that are burgeoning with symbolism

I did not know that she was on a scholarship because her dad is the school's exterminator. Let's hope Mackenzie does not know that.

Ouran High School Host Club Manga
by Bisco Hatori

I would recommend this series to teens because it does have some vulgar language and more mature topics. I really enjoyed seeing the Host Club become friends with Haruhi and refer to her as a “commoner.” It’s definitely a good rom-com but the romance part does develop more towards the end. It’s really funny seeing normal things that I do being refer to as exotic and a “commoner” thing. Haruhi is a very relatable character and her relationships with her friend definitely alter and develop throughout the story. The other characters’ develop is also very intriguing as you see them grow older throughout the series and towards the end when they graduate. The host club develops a family like bond, and it’s very intriguing to learn about all the characters back stories.

This romance novel follows Maddy, a girl who is prescribed to remain in her house because she has a disease, SCID, that inhibits her from doing so. Although she is not allowed to leave the perimeters of her sanitized house, she yearns to one day experience the grandeur and splendor of Hawaii. Soon, however, she starts texting her new next-door neighbor, Olly. Their newly robust bond soon lends them to embark on an unreservedly audacious adventure. This novel is prodigiously wholesome with an unexpected plot twist. It is fast-paced read, and I ended up finishing the book in one sitting. Furthermore, the way that it is written is so unique, making the reading experience indisputably pleasurable. Also, the characters were beautifully crafted and charming. Olly was unequivocally my favorite! I wholly recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys the romance genre!

The heart-rending novel, "The Kite Runner," by Khaled Hosseini follows two young boys, Hassan and Amir who reside in the bustling city of Kabul in Afghanistan. Amir, having an affluent background, shares a bond with Hassan, the servant of his father. Following a zealous kite tournament, an a harrowing and grisly incident unfolds which ultimately tampers the robust bond that Amir and Hasan once had. The appalling incident furthermore causes Amir to feel unreserved guilt that will follow him into his near future. The story then continues on to prodigiously discuss the war in Afghanistan and the life of Amir as he learns to battle with his agonizing guilt. This novel was indisputably a tearjerker. I don't cry often in many novels, but the detailed elucidations and unequivocally beautiful writing caused me to burst into tears by the end. I'm so glad I read this as it teaches important themes pertaining to friendship, family, and redemption. This book has left an irrevocable mark on my heart that will never be erased. My favorite line in this book is "For you, a thousand times over" as it causes me to feel a coalition of various emotions. I prodigiously recommend this to every teenager and adult looking for a life-changing story.
