Looking for Alaska is a coming-of-age fictional novel written by John Green. The main character is Miles Halter referred to as "Pudge" throughout the book. Miles is a boy who is obsessed with last words who left his high school in Florida to attend boarding school in Alabama. Miles meets his new roommate whose name is Chip Martin but, they call him the "The Colonel". The Colonel introduces Miles to his friends Takumi Hikohito, a rapping god and Alaska Young, a beautiful but, emotionally unstable girl. Everyone grows very close over the course of the year and then Alaska's sudden death shocks everyone. After Alaska dies all 3 of the friends try to figure out the missing details of her death. Looking for Alaska touches on the topics of grief, hope, and the meaning of life.
